NAPLES JAYCEES CANCEL ANNUAL HAUNTED HOUSE
Naples, Fla.—This year the Halloween horror came early for the Naples Jaycees as their planned annual Haunted House will not happen. The award winning, national-attention getting horror house has been cancelled.
For forty-plus years the Naples Jaycees have held their annual fundraiser to scare up money to help their community. Money raised from the event helped the Jaycees offset costs in providing Thanksgiving dinner to needy families, Christmas gifts and food to the less fortunate and help to fund the July 4th Festival at Sudgen Park, in East Naples.
Some thousands of hours go in to building, operating, and training Jaycees during the event. The Jaycees pay thousands of dollars for annual insurance, meet all safety requirements and have adults volunteer nightly for supervision. For the past ten years the event has won State Jaycee awards as the best in the State! Last year’s event did not meet these expectations. Past Presidents cautioned some cast members from last year this year’s event would concentrate on a safe atmosphere, fun for participants and patrons and family atmosphere as the event has for many years prior.
Late received safety expectations, lack of suitable indoor locations that met fire code, loss of last year’s outdoor location and timing was against the chapter this year. While this year the event has been cancelled, organizers quickly point out that the annual event will be back in very frightening form in 2008.
It is important for parents and school officials should note that their children may volunteer for the organizers at last year’s Naples Jaycees haunted house location.
This is not associated with the Jaycees, run by any Jaycee, and is not a not-for-profit organization providing letters of community service to college seeking teens.
The Naples Junior Chamber (Jaycees) gives young people between the ages of 18 and 40 the tools they need to build the bridges of success for themselves in the areas of business development, management skills, individual training, community service, and international connections.
